How Do You Perform Liposuction?
Liposuction is completed as an outpatient procedure using general anesthesia. A very small incision will be made through the skin, and a cannula will be placed. The cannula is a tube that helps break up and loosen the fat that is being removed. Once the fat deposits have been suctioned out, Dr. Mehta will seal the incision. Depending on the number of areas receiving treatment, your surgery could last several hours. In the separate recovery area, your post-op nurse will help manage any pain and care for your treated areas until you are discharged.

What about cellulite and loose skin?
Surgical liposuction only corrects excess fat. If you have loose skin, Dr. Mehta may suggest combining liposuction with a lift surgery. There are several nonsurgical and minimally invasive treatment options for correcting cellulite. Will I have scars?
Since liposuction is an invasive surgery, incisions must be made and stitched. This will create scars; however, Dr. Mehta does his best to minimize their appearance. Will my results last?
Before you have liposuction surgery, it is important to be committed to maintaining your results. While liposuction reduces the number of fat cells in your body, you can still gain and lose weight. Dr. Mehta recommends that you be at or close to a healthy weight before having liposuction. Afterward, it is best to remain within 5 – 10 pounds of your post-surgical weight. Getting pregnant after liposuction will also affect your results; however, another surgery or mommy makeover can be performed to refresh your body.
